South Africa lies in the southern hemisphere, so the peak of summer is February and the heart of winter falls in August. Spring and autumn are usually pleasantly warm and sunny. While summer is delightfully hot it’s also when the most rainfall occurs, however this is usually a brief, heavy downpour so rarely rains all day. The main exception is the Western Cape which has rain in the winter and hot, dry summers. The high lying areas of the interior can be chilly in winter.
Cape Town is approximately 12 hours (non-stop flights) from the UK and Johannesburg approximately 11 hours (non-stop).
